What will you be when you grow up? Will you go to university and become a doctor, scientist, or an accountant who helps people through Debt Consolidation Mississauga? Will you attend community college and become a plumber or restaurant manager? Or will you eschew post secondary education and end up flipping burgers in a fast food joint for minimum wage? Going to college greatly increases your chances of getting a good job where you can make a difference. One of the best places to go is right here in Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University.
Johns Hopkins was established in 1876 by the philanthropist of the same name. It has an endowment of more than $2.2. billion and has a reputation on the world stage as a top research school. The main campus is here in Baltimore but there are also campuses in Washington D.C., Singapore, China, and Italy. Johns Hopkins is different from most big name universities in that its more concerned with the postgraduate training you would need to be a Stouffville Optometrist than with basic undergraduate programs in science and arts.
Johns Hopkins University is divided into several schools, each with multiple majors programs. The schools of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Education are located in Homewood, while the schools of Nursing, Medicine, and Public Health are in East Baltimore. Downtown Baltimore is the location of the schools of Business and Music, and Washington D.C. is home to the schools of International Studies and Advanced Academics. If you're interested in using industrial valves to expand the horizons of physics, the Applied Physics Laboratory is located in Laurel, Maryland.
Johns Hopkins is widely regarded as one of the best universities in the world, so if your family has sold enough commercial properties in Ontario you should apply. The US News and World Report rankings frequently place the school of medicine at the top of the heap, as does the National Institute of Health. For the last 31 years it has also been the top ranked research school by the National Science Foundation. Overall the school consistently ranks among the top 20 in the world and among the top 10 in the country. Over 30 Nobel prize winners have attended or taught at Johns Hopkins.
As you might expect, getting into Johns Hopkins is tough. Even if you make enough as an Toronto caterer to afford your tuition, the current acceptance rate is only about 18%. There were almost 20,000 applications submitted for the class of 2015 and only about 3,500 got in. However, if you don't apply you definitely won't get in. Overall there are almost 20,000 students studying at Johns Hopkins, most of them in graduate programs, and nearly as many professors, administrators, staff, and researchers.
